How did it all begin?
After Guido van Staveren van Dijk started to investigate how conventional supply chains could be radically improved so producers receive a truly fair share of the deal.  As a result, he founded a company, Moyee Coffee, in 2013 that grows premium quality coffee and gives the farmers an extremely fair deal for their efforts. This is the first FairChain showcase project, and the coffee industry is a perfect example of the problems we see in many commodity value chains. FairChain is a radical principle that aims to balance the scales. Our goal is to create a 50/50 balance between the producers and the consumers. We are well aware of how ambitious this objective is.

Blockchain Revolution
Blockchain promotes honesty and radical transparency, and connects our farmers and consumers like nothing ever before. Put lightly, blockchain has the potential to turn the global coffee industry on its head. Which is why the FairChain Foundation is working with KrypC, a pioneering developer of technologies that streamlining critical supply chains in emerging economies. Our partnership with KrypC makes Moyee the first European coffee maker to introduce fully blockchain-traceable coffee.

Moyee’s FairChain coffee is roasted locally, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. For Ethiopians, this is entirely new. They’ve never been involved in the valued added side of the business. Our Addis Ababa roaster uses the latest western industrial technologies, but in Ethiopia and run by Ethiopians. Working together with leading universities in the Netherlands and Ethiopia, we’re educating a new generation of Ethiopian smallholders, entrepreneurs and roasters on how to turn a profit with their most precious resource: coffee. The knowledge we share and the local supply chains we establish lead directly to higher living incomes, urban employment, industrialization, investments, and pure, net profits in Ethiopia. This isn’t aid, but trade. Not pennies, but an entire ecosystem of value adding activities that will put more money in the pockets of Ethiopians.

The mission of Ash Elements is to turn an ugly liability into an attractive environmentally responsible asset.

Ash Elements is an Asset Back Token (ABT) that captures the value of rare earth minerals in coal ash in the form of mineral rights. Rare Earth Elements are referred to as vitamins for metals and electronics without which our high tech world ceases to exist. These mineral rights for premium coal ash basins are secured by a holding company through which mining or refining company can redeem ASH tokens

Rare earth mineral rights to particular sites under contract. Each Ash Token is contractually tied to 1 metric ton of fly ash.

By addressing the vulnerabilities of transparency and accountability within the industry, we hope to begin to solve the higher level issues of child labor, poor working conditions, and conflict support over time.

Responsible value chains can only exist when all actors are rewarded for their participation. Mining communities receive a better price for their products so that they can send their children to school while companies like Apple can fulfil the requirements of concerned consumers and regulators, and prove that they are responsible corporate citizens.

We will build a system with end-to-end supply chain traceability where downstream actors, especially end users will comply with their standards, expand sourcing from that particular supply chain, and can even support the mine financially, generating more business for everyone involved.

To address the first problem we’re looking to build a system in which actors in the supply chain only have to give up who they trade with instead of transactional data.

Provenance is a digital platform that empowers brands to take steps toward greater transparency. With our software, businesses can easily gather and present information and stories about products and their supply chains, including verified data to support them. By connecting this information to things – in store, on pack and online, we can all discover the origin, journey and impact of our products.

We don’t sell products, we are a framework for gathering and sharing knowledge about them. Provenance is here for businesses that want to bring a digital dimension to products, to reinforce a genuine connection between the people who create and consume them. We aren’t claiming to be ‘ethical’ or ‘sustainable’, but we are striving for both these ideals through a firm commitment to open, accessible information.

Provenance are now a growing social enterprise with a background in software design, product manufacturing and blockchain. The base is in London, but the mission is global. The common goal is to deliver meaningful change to commerce through open and accessible information about products and supply chains. Provenance works with partners in both the food and the fashion industry.
